Greetings from NJMP.
A day at the track always starts a little slower than you’d expect.
Cars roll through tech, hoods go up (or come off), tire pressures get checked and rechecked. Nothing feels rushed yet. Then the first group goes out, and just like that, everything picks up.
From the outside, shooting on track seems straightforward—stand in the right spot, point the camera, wait for the car. But it usually takes a few laps to settle into it.
You start to notice where things happen. A car leaning into a corner, unloading just a bit on exit, the way it straightens out before disappearing down the next section. Some corners give you more to work with than others.
Panning helps, but it’s never perfect. There’s always a bit of trial and error—too much movement, not enough, adjusting as the light shifts and the pace builds. Every car comes through a little differently, and that’s part of what makes it interesting.
You end up with a lot you don’t use. And a handful that feel right.
Those are the ones worth keeping.
Looking forward to our next day behind the lens. Until then, highlights from the day below.
